Get some cheap chess sets from the dollar store or thrift stores/garage sales. Get some eye screws (small) from Lowes/Home Depot and some large split rings from a craft store.
Screw the eye screw into a chess piece and attach a split ring. Instant key chain.
Cool answer above. I would add only buy one set to see if plastic holds screw or splits. Try on and off the seam. Each set give you 32 key chains to make the eye ring with any keychain rings gotten for free keychains, given away at say a home show, is a goo idea.
